The Cole County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating an assault that occurred on Monday, June 13th, between the hours of 1:40 – 2:00 pm. The incident occurred in area of St. Martins, possibly US 50 or Route T. The victim’s truck is described as a light tan, 2005 GMC, quad-cab, pickup. The description of the suspect was a heavy set white male, covered in tattoos, wearing a big ring on one hand and driving a blue Ford Taurus.
On Thursday, 06-16-16, at 05:44 am, one of the daughters of the victim called to make a report of the incident and to tell us that her father was in a medically induced coma due to a brain bleed. She stated she tried to get her father to make a report, but he did not want to. She was told to contact us when he wakes up, so we can talk to him about this.
On Friday, 06-17-16, at 02:30 am, the daughter called back to say her father was brain dead and on life support. They were going to donate his organs and then get an autopsy. On Monday, 6-60-16, an autopsy was completed. It could be several weeks before any of the findings will be available.
Since the initial report, we are actively working this case and will continue to do so. We are asking for the assistance of Cole County citizens in locating the vehicle and identifying this person.
