On Friday, May 10, 2019, the Cole County Sheriff’s Department conducted Spot Safety Checks at Westview Drive & Bagnall Drive. The Spot Safety Checks started at 2:30 pm and ended at 4:55 pm. We checked 360 cars; issuing 54 warnings and 5 summonses. There were 5 arrests for narcotics possession and 2 arrests for Driving While Revoked.
Many agencies like the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Moniteau County Sheriff’s Department, and Morgan County Sheriff’s Department are conducting these same Spot Safety Checks. As per our policy, we are conducting these checks for two reasons:
1. To reduce property damage, injuries and deaths caused by unqualified or unsafe drivers and defective equipment on motor vehicles.
2. To combat other volitions of the law which have significant adverse effects on the health and/or safety of the traveling public.
We will continue to conduct Spot Safety Checks, as well as, utilize any and all resources at our disposal to reduce crime and keep the citizens of Cole County safe.
