On Monday, October 1, 2018, at approximately 9:08 pm, the Cole County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 5100 block of South Brooks Drive for a stabbing. The individuals had already left the scene. The victim was on the way to St. Mary’s by private auto and the suspect had fled the scene.
Several deputies responded to the scene and started a canvas of the neighborhood. A possible suspect was later developed as a 15 yoa juvenile. Cole County Deputies, JCPD Officers and MSHP Troopers assisted to try to locate the subject in the area. Later, we were able to locate the subject at a residence in the 1900 block of Liverpool Drive. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Cole County Juvenile Attention Center (JAC).
The victim was air-lifted to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia with a life threatening condition. The victim had emergency surgery and is currently stable for now.
This was a complicated case that was handled quickly and professionally by Cole County Sheriff’s Department personnel, both on and off duty. Thanks again to the Jefferson City Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their quick response and support.
As always, we will use whatever resources available, and that I deem necessary, to fight crime and protect the citizens of Cole County.
