Shots Fired Call Results in Pursuit and One in Custody

Today, 07/17/2018, at 03:02 am, deputies responded to the area of Charm Ridge Drive & Charm Villa Drive for a weapons violation. The caller stated a subject from a light colored vehicle shot at a darker colored vehicle. Both vehicles drove away, the light colored car went towards Big Horn Drive.
Deputies went to the area and saw a light colored vehicle matching the description on Business 50. The suspect vehicle had Iowa license plates that did not match the vehicle being driven. A deputy attempted to stop the vehicle on Business 50 and a pursuit ensued.
The pursuit went down US Business 50 and turned north onto Route T. The vehicle then turned right onto HWY 179, where the driver lost control and went off of the roadway. The vehicle corrected back onto the road and the pursuit continued north on HWY 179 into Cooper County, across US 70 to Columbia, south on US 63 towards Jefferson City, finally stopping on US 63 near Broadway Street. Two people were taken into custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle resulted in two weapons being found; a 9mm handgun and a 20 gauge shotgun. The driver had five active warrants and the passenger had one $1,000 county warrant from Cole County.
Both subjects were complaining of neck injuries and were transported to University of Missouri hospital. The female was admitted to the hospital and released on ROR. The driver received a fit for confinement and was transported back to the Cole County Jail.
The driver was identified as Denver Newland, w/m, 18 yoa, and had a total of five active warrants;

The subject will be held for the above bonds, as well as, awaiting the new charges of; Driving While Revoked (Felony), Careless & Imprudent Driving, Illegal Possession of a Firearm (X2), Failure to Register Vehicle, Resisting Arrest and Speeding.
