The Cole County Sheriff’s Department is receiving complaints, again, of a scam involving the IRS. This is the same scam we had in the past couple of years. The suspects are calling people and identifying themselves as employees of the IRS. They are telling the victims that they owe money to the government and need to pay them over the phone. This is a scam and people should not pay this money. If in doubt, look up the number for the IRS and call them. Do not use the number the individuals give you.
