The
Cole County Sheriff’s Department is receiving complaints, again, of a scam
involving Jury Duty. This is the same scam we had in the past couple of years. The
suspects are calling people and identifying themselves as deputies. They are
telling the victims that they missed jury duty and now have to pay with money
orders or there will be warrants for their arrest. They are identifying
themselves as different members from the Cole County Sheriff’s Department.
This
is a scam and people should not pay this money.
If in doubt, call our office at 573-634-9160 or look
up the number for the court clerk of whatever county the official is
representing or look up the number for the Cole County Sheriff’s Department,
and call them. Do not use the number the
individuals give you. Remember, we will not call you to inform you of a
warrant. We show up and serve it.
