The Cole County Sheriff’s Department is receiving complaints, again, of a scam involving Jury Duty. This is the same scam we had in the past couple of years. The suspects are calling people and identifying themselves as deputies. They are telling the victims that they missed jury duty and now have to pay with money orders or there will be warrants for their arrest. They are identifying themselves as Deputy Kevin Woodson. There is a person that works for the sheriff’s department by that name, but he is not calling people.
This is a scam and people should not pay this money. If in doubt, look up the number for the court clerk of whatever county the official is representing or look up the number for the Cole County Sheriff’s Department, and call them. Do not use the number the individuals give you. Remember, we will not call you to inform you of a warrant. We show up and serve it.
