PAVEMENT PRESERVATION SEAL APPLICATION BEGINS NEXT WEEK
Work to apply an asphalt rejuvenator to area roads will begin on Monday, May 8th, weather permitting. Corrective Asphalt Materials, LLC was awarded the $133,000 project by the County Commission in April. The following roads will have the seal applied: Cedar Valley Rd, Eagan Ln, Autumn Woods Ln, Falling Leaf Ln, Cedar Knoll Dr, Old Rt C, Old Rt C Spur, Meadows Ford Spur, Rocky Rd, a portion of Tanner Bridge Rd and Highland Waye, and all of the streets in Eugene.
Motorist can expect long delays and are asked to use alternate routes, if possible. Residents along these roads are asked to keep all vehicles and items off the roadways while the contractor is in the area. The project is scheduled to last the next couple of weeks.
The purpose of the asphalt rejuvenator is to extend the life of the newly placed asphalt overlay. New asphalt pavements will lose a significant amount of their asphalt chemical binding properties within the first few years. The rejuvenator is an asphalt oil that penetrates into the pavement restoring the binding properties. It is applied as a preventative maintenance measure to ensure that the pavement is maintained in a good condition for as long as possible.
The Public Works department understands there will be inconveniences due to this project and we are being proactive in dealing with potential issues up front. Innovative contracting allowed the contractor to design a way to keep the inconveniences to a minimum. We are excited about the long term benefits this project will bring to the area and appreciate the public’s cooperation over the course of this year.
