Chief Matthew Lindewirth, MSEMS, NRP
Cole County Emergency Medical Services is led by Matthew Lindewirth. Chief Lindewirth started his career in EMS in 1995 as an EMT and became a Paramedic in 1997. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Troy University in Political Science with a minor in military operations. He completed his Master of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services from Creighton University. He is also a graduate of Fitch and Associate’s Ambulance Service Manger (ASM) course.
He has a passion for EMS being a community resource and advancing the EMS career field to be equals in the public safety triad of Police, Fire and EMS. He holds ethics in himself and others in the highest regards and instills in his staff daily, "we do the right thing, for the right reason, no matter the personal consequences."
Prior to joining Cole County, Chief Lindewirth served as the Chief of EMS in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He worked for the St. Charles County Ambulance District for nearly 18 years, earning numerous patient care and public relations awards.
In addition to serving the community of Cole County, he also serves as a Commissioned Officer in the US Navy. Prior to returning to the US Navy, Chief Lindewirth served in the US Air Force as an In-Flight Refueler (Boom Operator) and as a Corpsman in the US Navy. He has numerous deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism to numerous locations around the globe. Chief Lindewirth has been awarded numerous personal and unit medals and awards.
Chief Lindewirth has been married for 19 years to the love of his life and has two wonderful and successful children, Victoria and Alexander. In his off time, he enjoys spending time with his immediate and extended family boating, going to STL Blues hockey games, and attending his children’s sporting events.
