Patrol Staff & Shifts
The Cole County Sheriff’s Patrol Division (the Uniform Services Division) consists of 28 sworn officers. The Patrol Division maintains a minimum staffing level at all times. The Patrol Division’s work day is divided into 4 shifts which overlap to allow continuous coverage throughout the county. During a shift, and depending on the day, there may be as many as 7 or more Deputies on duty. This does not include Detectives or other divisions. The Patrol Division is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The Patrol Division Commander is Captain Chris Suchanek. A minimum of 2 people are on each shift. The Patrol Division work shifts are 10 hour shifts rotating from days to nights every 56 days.
Special Assignments
In addition, there are several special assignments within the Patrol Division. Our K-9 is specially trained and used in apprehension of suspects, locating missing persons, evidence recovery, and narcotics detection. Other specialized units include Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT.
Duties
Deputies in the Patrol Division respond to calls for reports of criminal activity, apprehending criminals and wanted persons, motor vehicle accidents, as well as enforcing motor vehicle violations and performing preventative deterrent patrols.
The Patrol Division patrols approximately 398 square miles including the following towns:

- Elston
- Eugene
- Henley
- Marion
- Osage City
- Russellville
- St. Martins
- St. Thomas
- Taos
- Wardsville
