Welcome to the Cole County Public Works Website. The Road & Bridge Department is responsible for in excess of 940 lane mile of road and the associated right-of-ways as well as the numerous bridges and drainage structures throughout Cole County. Routine and preventative maintenance includes applying gravel to rural roads, asphalt and concrete patching and sealing, roadside ditching, vegetation control, and bridge maintenance and repair. Traffic services provided include street signing, regulatory signing, and snow and ice control. 

Design and Construction Department is responsible for initiating, monitoring, and completing capital improvement projects related to Cole County’s transportation network. The projects include, but are not limited to, those authorized by the one-half cent sales tax package that was approved by voters in 1986 and renewed for an additional 5 years in 1991, 1996 and 2001. There is an extension of the 1/2 cent sales tax package on the ballot on August 8, 2006 which would be for an additional 5 years (2007 - 2011.) This Department conducts and coordinates the inspection and acceptance of subdivision streets as well as provides technical assistance to other County offices. The Division also administers the Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) program.

The Planning Department is responsible for reviewing and approving development plats in the unincorporated portions of the county with the purpose of promoting the orderly growth within the county, health, safety and general welfare of the public within the territory goverened by the Cole County Commission. The Planning Department also administers building inspections for habitable and commercial structures throughout the unincorporated areas as well as overseeing the Federal Floodplain Program for Cole County.

The County Park is another responsibility of the Public Works Department.The park has a lake that is managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Fishing access is provided around the park as well as by a handicapped accessible fishing dock. The lake is surrounded by a .66 mile walking trail and numerous picnic areas. A portion of the park is leased by the American Legion, who has developed a state of the art sports complex with four ball fields of various sizes.
